"Project Bandaloop, now named BANDALOOP is an aerial dance company, founded in 1991 by Amelia Rudolph and currently under the artistic direction of Melecio Estrella, the group is dedicated to celebrating nature, community, and the human spirit through its perspective-bending dance performances.[1][2]

Based in West Oakland, California, BANDALOOP reimagines dance by seamlessly integrating climbing technology, enabling dancers to perform on vertical surfaces. This approach has allowed the company to activate public spaces and attract audiences across the globe. BANDALOOP's performances have reached audience in over 300 cities across Europe, Africa, the Middle East, the Americas, and Asia. Additionally, the company has made appearances on screens in films and digital media.[3]"

The name comes from Jitterbug Perfume, a 1984 novel by Tom Robbins. I had the good fortune to accompany four incoming freshmen at Mills College to an introductory 3 hour session at Bandaloop's new HQ at 1601 18th Street in West Oakland several weeks ago. If you ever have the opportunity to take a group there, I recommend it very highly, as both the venue and the staff are exceptional.
