Meet the new mayor. Not living in San Francisco, I didn't pay that much attention to the mayoral race, aside from rooting for Aaron Peskin..

People are still talking about what happened when the November winds of change blew over the country. It wasn’t just the White House. The winds swept away the mayor of Oakland, the district attorney of Alameda County, the Los Angeles district attorney and even London Breed, the mayor of San Francisco.
It was like one of those sudden rainstorms that happen every autumn, a burst of wind, a bit of rain, and the next day everything looks different. We all felt it coming, but the change of seasons is a surprise.
In San Francisco, the surprise was the election of Daniel Lurie as mayor. Lurie, who is 47, is a native San Franciscan who was the founder of the Tipping Point Community, a nonprofit anti-poverty agency that committed to raise over $100 million to deal with chronic homelessness. Until he decided to run for mayor, Lurie was Tipping Point’s CEO.
He has an interesting background: Though he had never run for political office, he was well connected in San Francisco circles. His mother was Miriam “Mimi” Haas, a major stockholder in Levi Strauss and Co., a firm that is world famous. Everybody knows Levi’s, but nobody, it seemed, knew Daniel Lurie.
