Mick is our guest speaker at tonight's Autumn General Meeting at New St. Mary's Cathedral. I spoke with him last night about tonight's subject of his last public address before his retirement, which will be....................................? Stay tuned! 🙂

By Mick LaSalle, Movie Critic Dec 9, 2024 - San Francisco Chronicle

Leo Tolstoy’s “War and Peace” has 587,000 words, but it’s got nothing on the Chronicle’s searchable database, which has at least 600,000 words for the more than 1,000 movie reviews I’ve written since 1985.

We’re offering up the collection as I approach my retirement from active reviewing this month. (Don’t worry, you’ll see my byline here and there for the occasional review, and you’ll still be able to submit questions for “Ask Mick LaSalle.”)

Or to put it another way, retiring for me doesn’t mean not doing anything. It just means never again having to see another movie with “Venom” in the title.

The database contains reviews I’ve written for my highest-rated films, starting with my first Little Man Jumping (1986’s “Ruthless People”) and ending with “A Real Pain” released last month.

Mick LaSalle is retiring. His gift to fans: A collection of his favorite reviews
