Sorrell Tsui, artist for the mural celebrating the Lunar New Year and the NBA All-Star 2025 at 736 Washington St. in Chinatown, San Francisco on Friday, Feb. 14, 2025.

A pair of stunning, freshly painted murals went up in San Francisco Chinatown to celebrate the first-time convergence of the Chinese New Year Parade and NBA All-Star Game in The City.

While the parade — which organizers say is the biggest event of its kind outside of Asia — is a longstanding San Francisco tradition, the NBA’s midseason exhibition is making its inaugural visit to The City.

Although the actual All-Star Game will be held at Chase Center on Sunday, it was preceded by two days of events and showcases, making San Francisco the epicenter of the NBA the entire weekend.

In the spirit of ensuring the major events benefit one another, city leaders and community organizers partnered with Nike and Chase Center to install new Chinatown street art to commemorate the first-of-its-kind coincidence.

And artists say the plan is for each mural to remain up long after The City says “night, night” to the All-Star and Lunar New Year festivities.
