The former Bank of Italy, across the street from the Pyramid. Most interesting are the bits about Giannini and some lovely and interesting images.

Someone peering through the high, arched windows of The Bank at Amador, a new club in downtown San Francisco, might assume it to be a highly exclusive establishment, given the ornate box-beam ceilings, gleaming marble counters and walls, bespoke furniture, and elegantly arcing light fixtures.

But membership in the new social club that opened this month at the base of the historic Bank of Italy building at the corner of Montgomery and Clay streets is a relatively affordable $50 a month, and the general public is welcome for breakfast on weekdays from 7:30 to 10 a.m.

Evan Krow, owner of The Bank, says his goal is to create a non-elitist place for people of varied backgrounds to meet and do things with each other.
