About this event

A bit about Shawn Sprockett, our tour leader.

Design Leader · Adjunct Professor at the California College of Arts, Formerly at Airbnb, Meta, Apple, and Google

In 2018, I moved to Telegraph Hill and began to learn about the queer history of the Barbary Coast. From "The Nightingale of Montgomery Street," a Latino war hero in the Battle of the Bulge and the first openly gay man to run for office, to the butch entrepreneur behind Tommy's Place, who courted blondes, dodged the mob, and fought back against J. Edgar Hoover's henchmen... it's been a fascinating research project into this rich corner of San Francisco.
