Japantown Walking Tour

About this event

It's the Cherry Blossom Festival. Explore the history and culture of the Japanese-American community, as well as getting the skinny on present day Japantown.

This also will be the last opportunity to visit Japantown before major construction begins the following week. It's slated to take two years to complete.

Ours will be an in-depth exploration of the Japanese American experience, beginning with the first Japanese immigrants in significant numbers to Hawaii in 1868 and to the mainland the following year.

Following Executive Order 9066, the impact of the internment on the Japanese American community will also be explored.

Our docents will be Rosalyn Tonai, Executive Director of the National Japanese American Historical Society and NJAHS Project Manager Kenneth Sasamori.
