Castro Walking Tour with Ted Bagaman
About this event
Join SFTGG BOT member Ted Bagaman on Saturday, January 31st, as he leads a walking tour of the Castro. The district is experiencing a renaissance and a rebound in activity. Also, the renovation of the historic Castro Theater is nearly complete.
Learn about the history of the neighborhood, how it became a gay enclave, and about some of it heroes such as Oscar Wilde and Virginia Wolfe as well as colorful personalities like Sylvester and Sister Boom Boom.
For the architecturally minded, Ted will also speak to the Castro's Victorian and Edwardian structures.
So, stay current on the district and the changes therein by joining Ted on this fun and fascinating exploration of the sometimes kinky and always outre rabbit-hole that is the Castro.
Ted regards this tour as a service to our community and thus there will be no tipping.
We ask that all attendees wear their name badges. This is particularly useful and important for new members, so that they can both learn names of members, as well as introducing themselves to our community by name. Knowing names engenders familiarity and builds community.
