Monterey Lower Presidio Historic Park

This virtual tour of Monterey’s Lower Presidio, a place that has been described by many historians as “the most historically significant site on the west coast” and the place where Monterey was born, will take you back in time from the Rumsien/Ohlone to the political intrigue that brought American forces to our shores. In addition, it will show you the important role this incredibly special place played in making California what it is today.
Introductions provided by Inga Waite, City of Monterey, and Bill Wojtkowsi, Old Monterey Foundation. Tour led by professional historian and tour guide Tim Thomas.

Tim Thomas is a fisheries historian and author who has researched the fisheries and cultural history of Monterey for over thirty years. For sixteen years he was the Historian/Curator for the Monterey Maritime Museum.
