Cable Car Systems Compared

The San Francisco Tour Guide Guild and the Chicago Tour-Guides Professional Association have teamed up to do home-and-home events sharing like stories

The theme will a comparison between the cable car systems of the two cities -- with a friendly competition between who ruled, who had/has bragging rights, etc.

In fact, there are several additional connections between the tales of the two cities, and the presenters will develop those. Thus inspires the alternate programs' title.

Emeliano Echeveria, San Francisco native and long time SFMTA employee, and Greg Borzo, author of the new Chicago Cable Cars, will be the respective speakers for the August 11 and August 18 event.

The presenters will focus on the basic history of each city but also key points that tour guides will want to take away for their tour customers.

Links to each presentation will be sent to all those registered on the day before the presentation.  San Francisco will host the first on the 11th and Chicago will host the second on the 18th.

In Summary, 2 presentations, one week apart.   You need to register for each event to get the appropriate link 24 hours before the program starts.

San Francisco has captured all the glory of the cable car story. Nevertheless, Chicago--used to being the biggest and best, or at least claiming to be so--played THE pivotal role. It ran the world's largest cable car system for 25 years and sparked a nationwide, cable car building boom. Join Greg Borzo as he lays out the case with compelling evidence and more than 100 telling, historic photographs.
