This online event is an exploration of John Muir's time in San Francisco.
Much is known about John Muir's time in Yosemite and the high sierra but less discussed are his years in the city of San Francisco. His friends and connections there would launch his writing career and enable his rise to becoming America's most famous conservation icon. From his publications, to his business life, Muir's success and the city are inextricable. Colette Shaw has been involved with John Muir National Historic Site since 2015. She received the Presidential Volunteer Service Award for her work interpreting with the National Park Service, and was nominated for the Eckerd College P. E. Meese Writing Excellence Award for an essay she wrote on her time at the Muir house. If you wish to hear more of her work please visit the California State Railroad Museum's Podcast, "Roundhouse Crosstalk," where she is the guest historian for the episode "Lasting Legacies, John Muir and The Railroad."
