Anita Rao's Trek into the Farthest Reaches of Treasure island

So you are wondering what’s happening in Treasure Island, eh?  Well, you and me being in the same boat, I went exploring.  First, I took the Treasure Island Ferry from the Ferry Building's Gate B directly to Treasure Island.  It being a private service, the Clipper Card does not work.  Costs $5.00 and takes only about 15 minutes!  If you prefer taking Muni using your Clipper Card, take the 25 directly from the Transbay Terminal/Salesforce Transit Center.  If you are coming from the East Bay, AC Transit is a possible future connection, but for now, it is reached by car or a long, but fascinating walk over the Eastern span of the Oakland Bay Bridge!

At 1:45 pm we'll meet  at the Treasure Island Ferry Terminal. We'll then take a short walk through the housing development along the way to Mersea, where the Tour Bus Parking is located on Treasure Island.

Mersea

From there we'll  schlep to the main Administration Building to view the extensive Naval History Mural inside, as well as the small, but significant, Treasure Island history exhibit.  Information will be shared regarding the present “goings on” at TI.  At 3:00 pm, We'll be hosted by the new venue, Gold Bar, introducing us to the official whisky of the San Francisco 49ers.  The chief distiller will be walking us through a tasting, explaining the production process, with a selection of bar bites from their menu.

This is a generous offer provided to the first 30 people that sign up for this event.  Please only do so if you are definitely attending this event.  The goal is to expose us all to what is available to our guests, both private and groups, to the unique community harmoniously coexisting and promoting one another on Treasure Island!

Folks taking the ferry from San Francisco to TI should take the 1:20 pm ferry from Gate B at the Ferry Building.

People have the option of arriving by ferry, MUNI Line #25, by car, or by foot or bicycle from the East Bay. The ferry returns to San Francisco from TI at 4:35 pm,  5:50 pm, and 6:30 pm.

Amended itinerary:

New Scheduled Itinerary -
  • 3:00pm: Arrival at Gold Bar Distillery
  • 3:15pm: Tasting done by Master Distiller
  • 3:30pm: Information on Gold Bar Whiskey
  • 3:45pm: History of Treasure Island from Treasure Island Museum
  • 4:00pm: Future of Treasure Island from island developer
  • 4:15pm: Snacks, drinks and networking
I will meet the group at the TI Ferry at 1:45 pm, so that anyone taking the ferry or arriving by MUNI bus 25 or by car, or riding a bicycle or walking over from the East Bay, would spot me.  Then we would go for our walk to Mersea and back, in time for our scheduled meeting.  If folks cannot make it at 1:45 pm, they can simply join us all at 3pm directly at the Gold Bar.

Looking forward to seeing you all there!
