The Board of Trustees of the SFTGG is considering having a contingent in the upcoming SF Pride Parade. Would you like to join us?
As we celebrate the SFTGG’s 40th anniversary, it is a time to reflect back on the last four decades in San Francisco. At the time our guild was founded in 1984, the LGBTQ+ community wasn’t just fighting for acceptance, they were at the forefront of the fight against a worldwide AIDS epidemic. It was an oppressive time for those trying to speak out.
Today, in 2024, San Francisco tour guides have the freedom to speak on these topics openly. And, we carry the responsibility of telling the stories of what happened here in the past.
Let’s celebrate how far we’ve all come in the last forty years and join the parade!
But, before we sign up we want to make sure we have a large enough contingent.
Here are the details:
- The date is Sunday, June 30, 2024 between roughly 8 am and 2pm. The parade starts at 10:30 am at Market and Beale. It will require walking to Market and Eighth.
- We will not know our place in the parade until the day of, so we may be waiting around for some time in the staging area for our turn.
- There will be a nominal charge to help cover our costs of registration/banner/signs/etc..
- You can wear your most colorful attire…or keep it simple. Whatever is comfortable for walking and waving.
If you think we should do it, then respond back to the forum and let us know. Or, you can email me directly (christine.miller.sf@gmail.com). Based on response, we will open this up for registration as an event. We need to make a final decision before the June 1st deadline, so please respond as soon as possible.
