Walking tour of Oakland‘s Chinatown led by Oakland resident and architect Roy Chan. This is a magical and bustling time of the year in Chinatown, just before the Chinese Lunar New Year on January 29th.. Roy will also make restaurant recommendations, including his favorite dim sum spot, for those wishing to stay and have lunch in Chinatown.

Explore the vibrant and revolutionary queer history of San Francisco’s Tenderloin and Polk Street neighborhoods with local resident and professor Shawn Sprockett. This tour offers a deep dive into the emergence of LGBTQIA+ icons and movements that shaped the area from the 1960s to the 1990s. The “Valley of the Queens” tour highlights key events such as the Compton’s Cafeteria Riot, a landmark trans resistance that predates the Stonewall Riots, and the site of San Francisco’s first Pride parade.

We‘ll be starting at the Tenderloin Museum at 398 Eddy Street and and ending at The Cinch Saloon (1723 Polk).

Our tour leader, Shawn Sprockett, is an Adjunct Professor of Design at the California College of Arts, and formerly at Airbnb, META, Apple, and Google.

A docent led visit to both gardens, with Suzanne Summer, Director of the Bonsai Gardens and Carole Levenson, co-president of the Botanical Gardens.
